What is the RDC train?

The Rail Diesel Car (RDC) train consist of stainless steel passenger cars that are self-propelled. These cars were common in commuter service from the 1950s through the 1990s on many railroads. Each car has a restroom, climate control, and windows that slide open or shut. One car on the train has a snack counter that offers a variety of snacks, sodas, iced tea, and water.

When do the RDC trains run?

RDC trains run starting Memorial Day Monday, May 28.

The RDC trains run every Saturday and Sunday in June, July, August, September, and November.

Do trains run rain, snow, or shine?

Yes, the trains will run regardless of the weather. If advanced tickets were purchased, and you cannot ride due to poor weather conditions, you may exchange your tickets for a future trip by contacting 610-562-2102.

All unused tickets are good forever, call 610-562-2102 for additional information.

What is Standard Coach? What is offered on the Snack Car?

Standard Coach is the seating accommodation provided on the RDC trains. Enjoy bus style seating and windows that slide open and shut. Seats can face each other, each seat can hold 2 people comfortably. Also for your convenience, there is a snack counter on the train that offers a variety of snacks, sodas, iced tea, water, etc. You may also bring food and drink on the train.

Standard Coach Seating:

Tickets are $32 per person from Reading Outer Station.

Tickets are $30 per person from Port Clinton Station.

Can unused tickets be refunded?

All unused tickets can be exchanged for other railroad trips by calling 610-562-2102. The ticket(s) to be exchanged must be intact with all stubs attached. Tickets that have only one stub remaining attached will not be accepted for exchange purposes.

If the future railroad trip you chose is a different, more costly trip, the unused ticket may be exchanged by paying the price difference.

Because of the different services/seating offered by the Reading and Northern Railroad and the increased popularity in rail excursions, if you have an unused ticket, it MUST be exchanged for a new one in advance. Tickets cannot be exchanged on the day of the trip. Please do not expect to just show up and be accommodated the day of the trip.

A ticket purchased is good forever until used, however, unused tickets must be exchanged in advance, not the day of the trip.

Train Tickets must be treated as cash.

Can tickets be purchased online?

Yes, RDC train tickets can simply be purchased by clicking the “Buy Now!” button next to the trip desired.
