Where is the NEW Reading and Northern Passenger Station located?

The new Reading Outer Station is located at 3501 Pottsville Pike at the corner of Bellevue Avenue and Route 61, Muhlenberg Township, just north of Reading, PA.

Where is the Reading and Northern Railroad Station located in Port Clinton?

Besides Reading Outer Station, trains destined for Jim Thorpe also board at the Reading and Northern Station in Port Clinton, PA, 1 Railroad Boulevard just off Broad Street and Route 61. The train will stop for a few minutes and board more passengers, and then it will depart and continue on to Jim Thorpe, PA.

Where do trains from Reading Outer Station and Port Clinton go?

The trains take the Reading and Northern mainline to Jim Thorpe, “The Switzerland of America”. You will have approximately 3 hours to explore the attractions in historic downtown Jim Thorpe. Does the train run rain, snow, or shine?

The trains run regardless of the weather.

Can unused tickets be refunded?

All Unused tickets can be exchanged for other trips by calling 610-562-2102.

The ticket(s) to be exchanged must be intact with all stubs attached.

Tickets that have only one stub remaining attached will not be accepted for exchange purposes.

If the future railroad trip you chose is a different, more costly trip, the unused ticket may be exchanged by paying the price difference.

Because of the different services/seating offered by the Reading and Northern Railroad and the increased popularity in rail excursions, if you have an unused ticket, it MUST be exchanged for a new one in advance.

Tickets cannot be exchanged on the day of the trip. Please do not expect to arrive and be accommodated the day of the trip.

A ticket purchased is good forever until used, however, unused tickets must be exchanged in advance, not the day of the trip.

Train Tickets must be treated as cash.

What time does the 9:00 a.m. train depart?

The Reading and Northern Railroad Passenger Department prides itself in on time passenger train departures. Since the Reading and Northern Railroad operates regularly scheduled trains, every effort to adhere to our advertised schedule is maintained and unless there are extenuating circumstances beyond our control, the 9: 00 a.m. train (and all scheduled trains) will leave on time.

Are there restrooms on the train?

Yes, restrooms are available on all trains. We pride ourselves on clean restrooms, so please let us know if our restrooms are not up to your expectations.

Ladies’ rooms are provided on all trips for your convenience.

Can tickets be purchased online?

Tickets can be purchased online for all-day train excursions to Jim Thorpe. Santa Claus Special train ride tickets cannot be purchased online at this time.

Can you purchase tickets the day of the trip for Reading Outer Station to Jim Thorpe excursions?

Because of the popularity and limited seating available on the Reading and Northern Passenger trains, tickets are not offered for sale on the day of the scheduled trip. All tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets can be purchased by mail, picked up in person at the Schuylkill Haven Station, 12 West Main St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972, or by phone at 610-562-2102. Tickets will be sent to you in the mail approximately 2 weeks before the date of your train trip.

Are there any other Reading and Northern Railroad Passenger train trips scheduled throughout the year?

Yes! Please check this website regularly for updates. Throughout the year, trips with non-profit organizations are created in cooperation with the Reading and Northern Railroad. Please look for details.

What is the Santa Claus Special Train?

Santa Claus Special train rides are operated during the Christmas Season from various towns along the Reading and Northern Railroad mainline.

Bring the entire family to enjoy these trips. Will my group be able to sit together?

Seating is general admission, large groups including 8 or more people should arrive for boarding by 8:15 am in order to have the best chance of sitting together.
